Teen Shoots Up NYC Skating Rink Over a "Biggie" Coat (@VladTV)

Corey Dunton, the 16-year-old accused of opening fire upon skaters at Bryant Park on a Nov. 9 Saturday night, was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and weapons possession after the police finally spoke to him, following a standoff that started when he locked himself in his room. While inside, he updated his Facebook status with, “FEDS AT MY DOOR IM GOING OUT WITH A BANG!!!!!!! TAKE MY SOUL”

It’s now believed that Dunton was aiming at 20-year-old Javier Contreras, who was wearing a Marmot Mammoth coat.

Dunton had tried to mug Javier Contreras, 20, of Manhattan right on the Midtown rink’s ice, demanding the man’s Marmot Mammoth parka, known on the streets as a “Biggie,” sources said.

An innocent bystander, Adonis Mera, 14, was also shot in the back; it’s unclear whether he’ll be able to walk again.

The Marmot coat has something of a stigma attached to it. It has been the object of envy and violence before. Malik Jenkins died in 2010 when he was struck by a car fleeing a trio who tried to steal his coat in the Bronx. And, earlier this year, Raphael Ward was killed for his coat at the corner of Rivington and Columbia on the Lower East Side.
