Vanity Fair’s 20th Annual Hollywood Issue is the most diverse Hollywood issue in its franchise, with two men of color actually making the cover this time, and not the folded-in part of the cover no one can see from the news stands. Six actors of color in total are featured on the cover. Yes! Meet Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Michael B Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Naomie Harris, and Chadwick Boseman (from left to right).

Check out some close-ups of this cover when you continue, plus find out a few facts about the actors who are featured. Can I just say I would love to be Julia Roberts, right now *fake blushes*:

A Few Facts:

Four of the six top black actors recognized on this cover are of west African descent (Kenyan, Nigerian): Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, and Chadwick Boseman.

Three out of these six actors are also from the UK: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Naomie Harris who is of Afro-Carribean descent (Jamaican/Trinidadian), and Idris Elba.

Only two of the actors are from the US: Michael B Jordan and Chadwick Boseman. Although I thought Lupita Nyong’o was American, I recently found out that she was actually born and raised in Mexico to Kenyan parents before attending college in the US; she’s actually African-Mexican.

Chiwetel Ejiofor and Lupita Nyong’o are famous for their roles in 12 Years A Slave, which is creating quite the buzz during the 2014 awards season. Chiwetel has an Oscar nod for Best Actor in 12 Years A Salve, and Lupita has one for Best Supporting Actress.

Naomie Harris and Idris Elba are on the cover for their roles in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Chadwick Boseman is most famous for his role in 42, and Michael B Jordan who is not related to the famous athlete of the same name, is being honored for his role in Fruitvale Station, although he’s starred in The Wire as Wallace, All My Children, and Friday Night Lights.

We have some beautiful talents making headlines this year…Let’s celebrate history in the making this month.
