YACHT Detail New Album I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler with GIFS

YACHT have detailed their fifth album, I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler, in a new “tracklisticle” that appears on Buzzfeed. The post is titled “11 Ways We Thought The Future Would Be Cooler”, and includes gifs that the band created for each track on the album, along with a written statement for each.

“We are the band YACHT. This is the tracklisticle for our new album, I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler. We chose to unveil it here on BuzzFeed because it’s 2015 and the album is dead, the novel is dead, but the GIF loops forever. ♥ ♫”, they wrote.

Check out select posts and the full tracklist below. Read all of the GIF descriptions over at Buzzfeed.

WHITE MIRROR

Our species has never quite been able to stop itself from grabbing technology, turning it around, and using it as a mirror. Only now the mirror is everything: we are surrounded by representations and reflections of ourselves, avatars, profiles, front-facing cameras. Identity is weird.

I THOUGHT THE FUTURE WOULD BE COOLER

This is what the world feels like: relentless police violence, social media companies exploiting us emotionally, the ascendance of content over art, pleasure as a teleological end in itself, vaporized stimulants, using the word “drone” to mean both a killing machine and a remote-controlled toy.
