For Timberland Lovers Only: We Talk Their Most Exclusive Boots

It’s the dead of summer, so it’s very likely that your mind is not on heavy winter boots.

But as editors, who get a peek at what’s to come, we were totally inspired by what Timberland has in store for fall/winter 2015. The New Hampshire-based company is rolling out a ton of outerwear, separates and shoes for the season all with exceptional quality — i.e. what they’re known for. In the lineup of goods, one group of boots caught our attention: Level 61.

The exclusive collection of heavy (literally) boots have been sourced by A$AP Rocky, Cara Delevingne and Rihanna– so, we HAD to know more about these high-end stunners.

We chatted with Cassie Heppner, Timberland’s Director of North America Wholesale Marketing about the line of shoes not found just anywhere. Read about everything from where their name comes from to how to preserve your Timbs, below.

On where Level 61’s name originates: “The Timberland Level 61 collection is a special, limited-release line named after our beloved original yellow boot –the 10061. Level 61 is an internal name really, giving us inspiration to tell the story of the evolution of our brand. It’s a celebration of the quality, authenticity and heritage of our original yellow boot and others icons like it. However, with this collection our designers took a more modern approach –each piece has been reimagined with new materials, new colors and designs, limited pairs of this collection are only available at select retailers.”

On Timberland’s history in hip hop and the first artists to wear these shoes: “Music and fashion have always had a very powerful connection to one another. Timberland became synonymous with hip hop in the early ’90s when artists like Wu-Tang Clan made them their footwear of choice. I think it boils down to the authenticity, rugged durability and utility of the boot and our brand. Artists and fans alike adopted Timberland as a symbol of their own individualistic style – it exudes confidence like no other boot on the market.”

On the durability of Level 61 boots and what gives them that extra weight: “Our limited release boots take queues from performance standards of the original yellow boot – it’s 100-percent waterproof and built tough enough to take on the elements. They are built with the most premium materials meant to look great and withstand the city elements – whether that’s trekking home during a winter storm or going out for a night out with friends. From example, premium Hazel Highway and Quartz leather can be found in the line, while Primaloft® insulation and Vibram® outsoles come together making them as durable as they are stylish.”

On who the Timberland customer is and celebrity fans: “The beautiful thing about Timberland is that we’re a very diverse brand with a broad range of consumers worldwide. Our boots really appeal to the everyday consumer who is looking for versatile product that can take them throughout every point in their day, no matter where it leads. Over the years we certainly have been lucky enough to have our fair share of celebrity fans. Influential artists like Jay-Z, Kanye, Pharrell and Rihanna to celebrities like Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum and Cara Delevingne have been seen wearing Timberland throughout their everyday lives.”

On how to care for these boots to ensure they last a long time: “How you care for your boots is really dependent on the type of boot that you have. For example, the original yellow boot utilizes premium wheat nubuck leather. For these, the best way to protect them from dirt and stains is by pretreating them with a water-based stain and water repellent like the Timberland Balm Proofer™ XL All Purpose Protector. This will keep the elements away from your boots when life takes you on those unexpected adventures. If you do happen to stain your boots, the Timberland Renewbuck™ foam cleaner removes tough stains giving them that fresh out of the box look. For boots with smooth or full-grain leathers, treating them with a leather conditioner will prevent leathers from drying out and keeping them looking fresh.”
