#MFW Runway Recap: Gucci’s Fall 2015 Very, Very Vintage Vibes

Alessandro Michele made his debut as Gucci’s new creative director in Milan, and his Fall 2015 collection is the sign that he is taking the designer label in a whole new direction.

The runway was full of floral prints, bird motifs and the ’70s influence you would find in a vintage shop. From the sheer lace tops to the pleated skirts and fur-trimmed coats, the collection was made for the girl whose closet is comprised of thrift shop finds and family heirlooms that seem to have been in storage for a decade, or two.

For Michele was goal was to introduce the brand to a new generation of women, and the romantic, vintage vibe for the modern woman that he was trying to achieve came through in only a few of the pieces.  The highlights of the collection included the floral print pantsuits and the fur coat that had many critics referencing Wes Anderson’s Margot Tenenbaum.

The only semblance of the Gucci of the past was the double G logo, which was placed on belt buckles throughout the show, but that was it. While the collection had several conversation starter pieces, like those Hobbit-esque fur lined shoes that we kind of love, it was very plain to see the overtly sexy Gucci of the past is gone.

Michele made it clear he was going in a new direction, but he has yet to convince the fashion world it is the right one.
