There Are Now Smart Mannequins That Can Tell You What They’re Wearing

As if there’s any other excuse for fashion mavens to go shopping, there are now mannequins that can send messages to your phone telling you exactly what they’re wearing! In an effort to lure more shoppers away from the Internet and into retail stores, Inconeme is the world’s first smart mannequin business planning to transform the fashion shopping experience.

By simply downloading the Inconeme app and walking past one of the company’s mannequins, you’ll receive messages on your phone informing you of what the model is wearing, who designed it and how much it costs. “We decided we had to work out a way to bring the good old-fashioned mannequin into the 21st century,” said Jonathan Berlin, managing director of Universal Display, the company selling the unique mannequins.

Creating the models with electronic beacons (small transmitters that communicate with your phone), the smart mannequins can send a signal to anyone within a 100-foot range of the store. And with style inspiration from the digital app, you can even buy separates that catch your eye without going through the store to find them.

To some, a window-shopping app for in-store experiences equals a clashing situation. And while it may seem as if Inconeme is taking all the fun out of shopping, Berlin argues that many consumers prefer to save time, can’t put their smartphones down, and could use some guidance when picking out an outfit. Soon enough the results will show if shoppers are really interested in this transition. After all, would you prefer to be blasted with clothing advertisement from plastic dolls?
