Thursday Tresses: Frohawks Of All Textures

Not too long ago I had the pleasure of heading down to sunny Miami Beach to be introduced to a new product from Beautiful Textures. Pictures from the trip can be found here.

I was a loyal naturalista for three years until late last year when I needed a drastic change. Inspired by a Kelis circa 2008 picture, I texturized my hair and cut it into a edgy frohawk. Only problem was.. I chose to texturize it myself. So inevitably, my hair was fried.

During the trip we learned about the innovative Texture Manageability System (TMS), a shampoo and conditioner duo that naturally straightens hair. With amino acids as the active ingredient, the aloe vera, coconut, olive, soy, argan oil, shea and mango butter make the product all the more healthy for your hair.

After returning from Miami, I let my hair rest a little bit. Got braids. Protected it from the elements. Up until last week when I finally headed into the LW Salon in mid-town Manhattan to try the TMS out for myself.

My hair has a solid 4c curl so after my hair was washed, the stylist added the conditioner, tied my hair up and had me sit under the dryer. And no lie, once she began styling I immediately felt the change. My hair felt soft, parted like the Red Sea and held the curl of the flat iron with ease.

And the maintenance process has been great! I use my favorite shampoo and conditioner, blow dry with the user-friendly Centrix Q-Zone Lightweight Dryer (buy here)– that is the quietest blow dryer I have ever used– bump with the flat iron and go.

I’m not gonna lie, the appeal of braids will probably call me sooner than later but with the TMS in my regular routine and the right tools at home, wearing it out will no longer be a hassle.
