It’s no secret that swimsuit season is here. And it’s here to stay for months to come. So ahead of the anxiety, shopping, diet teas, etc— we spoke to Brazilian businesswomen and ViX designer, Paula Hermanny.

The woman is a genius when it comes to swimwear, in particular with sexy cuts native to her South American country. In business since the ’90s, Hermanny has “mastered the art of tastefully combining exquisite prints and colors” with luxury hardware. She’s introduces American customers to swimwear season after season, and designs with a passion for comfort and style.

So who better to talk swimwear than her about swimsuits! See what Paula Hermanny had to say about ViX and Brazilian culture, below.

On her journey into fashion and how her personal style evolved with being in business: “I grew up with two grandmothers that were very into fashion and style, one was a seamstress and one was a beauty queen that dressed up every day. I looked up to them, they had a big impact on my personal style. My job has allowed me to travel all over the world and my personal style has definitely evolved because of it. I don’t believe in style straight off the runways or ads in magazines. I have collected handbags, jewelry and accessories from all over the world and I believe this is what makes your style personal.”

On Brazilian swimwear and what makes it unique: “Swimwear, particularly bikinis, are a lifestyle in Brazil. We collect them the way Americans may collect t-shirts or shoes. We don’t obsess over ‘swimsuit season’ because we go to the beach all year long, and therefore feel very comfortable in a bikini no matter what our body type may be. Brazilian bikinis have always been smaller, sexy, flattering —it took the rest of the world a long time to catch up to us!”

On the most important element to choosing swimwear: “Fit! Too much fabric, too tight, wearing it too high on the hips —all of these things can cause you not to look your best in a bikini. It’s good to know your body type and then shop for styles that flatter your figure.”

On who her customer is: “The ViX woman considers quality over quantity and looks for unique, unexpected styles for everything in her wardrobe. Our customers always tell us they love our fit, and the timeless sophistication of our suits.”

On swimwear trends this upcoming season you’re loving: “Our High Summer ‘16 and Preview ’17 collections are launching in June and July of this year. The color palette is beautiful with pale blues, navy, blush. The suits are detailed with leather and contrasting piping. There are also some knit styles that are meant to be worn with your everyday wardrobe, not just on the beach!”
