Alex Rodriguez May Be Facing Lifetime Ban From Pro Baseball (@arod)

After Milwaukee Brewers baller Ryan Braun became the first player linked to anti-aging clinic Biogenesis to be suspended by the MLB on Monday, the sports world is now wondering what fate will befall Alex Rodriguez.

Braun copped a season-long suspension without pay, so could A-Rod be facing the same punishment?

Citing an unnamed source, CBS Evening News’ Jim Axelrod reported on Tuesday that the injured Yankees slugger could be facing a lifetime ban from the sport he’s dominated for so long.

ESPN’s Wallace Matthews reported that “sources familiar with the investigation” said the evidence against Rodriguez is “far beyond” what the league has on Braun. ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” reported last month that A-Rod and Braun were among around 20 players that the MLB would seek to suspend for their involvement with Biogenesis, an anti-aging clinic accused of providing performance-enhancing drugs to professional athletes.

A lifetime ban is stipulated under MLB’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program for a player guilty of a third positive test for a performance-enhancing substance or a third violation of the league’s drug policies “through the use or possession of a performance-enhancing substance.”
