Blazing The Scene: Africa’s Out Annual Gala In Brooklyn

We had the pleasure to attend the 2nd Annual Africa’s Out benefit dinner and concert at Brooklyn’s Pioneer Works on June 3. This year’s event was in honor of UHAI EASHRI, an organization in East Africa that promotes sexual health and LGBT rights. In celebration, guests were treated to performances from Santigold and Jidenna.

“Tonight, we’re celebrating artists who use their gifts to eliminate homophobia and steer this movement,” said Thelma Golden, the Director and Chief Curator of The Studio Museum in Harlem.

In addition to raising funds for the Nairobi-based organization, they also honored Zanele Muholi, a South African photographer and visual activist who brings awareness to LGBT life in her work.

Delicious food, great music and amazing company made for and beautiful evening.
