It’s Cinco de Mayo! Which for many of us, means egregious amounts of Mexican food and tequila.
But the holiday, which celebrates Mexican resistance to foreign intervention (the French) was a moment where Mexico as a young nation rallied to defend itself, as noted by Raul Ramos, Associate Professor of History at the University of Houston.
And with that noted, we should cheers to the victory.
A fun fact about tequila is that it originates from the city of Tequila, in the state of Jalisco, about 60 km from Guadalajara. The liquid is distilled from the blue agave plant, which requires the plant to mature for seven to ten years before being harvested.
