I am a self-professed and proud Francophile. Everything about the French culture and the French joie de vivre is captivating and profoundly enchanting to me. I recall taking my first trip to Paris as an awkward, chubby, and extremely uncouth American-looking ten year old (GAP sweatshirt and Limited Too accessories to boot), it is safe to say I was not the Audrey Hepburn example of “An American in Paris.”
Years later while studying in London at the age of 18, I returned to the heartland of Chanel and street crepes for my second dose of Parisian magic. After wandering the streets of a city so different from anything I’d ever witnessed in a vintage 1950s dress (that I thought incredibly fitting for the occasion), my proclivity for French culture was hopelessly sealed.
Part of my partiality for France comes from my adoration of French women. French girls naturally posses a confident sophistication, aka savoir faire, in their persona, style, and attitude. The French style is easy to place, timeless, and always containing an element of nonconformity.

On the day of celebration for France’s independence, we took a look at some of France’s most illustrious style icons of today and yesterday —Brigitte Bardot, Carline de Maigret, Carine Roitfeld, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Coco Chanel, Francoise Hardy, Lou Doillon, and Clemence Posey— to get the essence of French style. We then found inspiration from some of our favorite brands and created the recipe for capturing French style with your sartorial selections.
