Don Lemon Responds To Russell Simmons Thirst?

Don Lemon finally responds to Russell Simmons’s remarks aimed at Don Lemon’s response to Bill O’Reilly’s racially tinged rant. Don Lemon is not happy with the way the dialogue is going, even suggesting that Uncle Rush’s remarks may have been a little thirsty. Uh-Oh, Don Lemon got shade:

I’m glad we are having this debate. Don Lemon of CNN, was under attack for some of his comments regarding blacks in this nation. Don Lemon had some very hard truths to speak to our black youth, but he did so by agreeing with some outrageous right wing non-sense propaganda spewed by Conservative talk-show host, Bill O’Reilly, that perpetuated stereotypes regarding the black community without any historical context.  Anyone who disagrees with or challenges Bill O’Reilly and the right wing machine are quickly labeled race baiters and the real racists.

Don Lemon, in agreement with Bill O’Reilly, adds fuel to the fire on CNN, when he goes on a rant listing five things black people need to change. Those five things include sagging pants, using of the n-word, respecting where you live, finishing school, and having babies out of wedlock. Ouch!

Well Russell Simmons has a response that was equally truthful and over the top, filled with name-calling. Russell Simmons informs Don Lemon that these kids didn’t create the environment from which they were raised. Plus he also calls Don Lemon a slave and an agent for right wing propaganda. Ouch! Often times critics on this side of the spectrum hurl words such as house nigg*r , sell-out, or Uncle Tom to ridicule any black person who doesn’t agree with them.

Again, black people are arguing about issues instead of solving the issues. I’ve always maintained that both sides are right. I agree with President Obama, Don Lemon, and Bill Cosby, and I also agree with Cornell West, Micheal Eric Dyson, and Russell Simmons. If they could all just come together imagine the progress that would be made. Yes! The black community needs tough love, real truths, as well as an understanding regarding the nature of our problems in an historical context that deals with racism in this country.

What we don’t need are thirsty people arguing back and forth and name calling. What we do need is a healthy debate with some real solutions, and a united front against propagandist like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly who want to paint us with one wide broad brush. There is so much more to the black community than thugs and baby-mamas, and we need to spend more time highlighting those stories while battling these caricatures of our race in the media.
