T-Pain began his career with dreadlocks, and the hairstyle quickly became his trademark image. He progressed through the years maintaining the hairstyle, but eventually cut off the dreads for a very emotional reason.

T-Pain reflected on his uncle, who he was very close with, being killed by police after he went crazy, and how he saw him later on in a dream.  In the dream T-Pain was advised by his uncle to chop off his dreadlocks in order to propel his career, so the very next day, as soon as he woke up he did just that.
