Former Red Sox Player’s Son Charged With Murdering Girlfriend

Jared Remy, son of Red Sox announcer and former player Jerry Remy, was charged on Friday for stabbing and killing his girlfriend and mother of his child, Jennifer Martel. The incident happened on Thursday when Jared reportedly trailed Martel around their townhouse, stabbing her “over and over again,” a prosecutor claimed.

Neighbors allegedly saw Jared stabbing his girlfriend on their patio and made numerous calls to 911. When they tried to intervene, he chased them away with the knife and only stopped when police confronted him at the scene. Their four-year-old daughter was home at the time of the incident and is now being cared for by the Department of Children and Families.

On Tuesday night Martel obtained an emergency restraining order against Jared after he allegedly rammed her head into a mirror at the home, because he was upset she was visiting a neighbor. He was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, but was released the next day when Martel didn’t appear in court to extend the restraining order.
