Grimes Explains Origin of the Name "Grimes"

In a series of tweets, Claire Boucher has explained how she came up with the name Grimes. Apparently, it started with the “genre” options offered by MySpace—not from “The Simpsons” character Frank Grimes or artist Ken Grimes, Stereogum points out.

She wrote:

on myspace ur genre could be grime and u could have 3 genres so i was plural grime, b4 knowing what grime was
