There has been great debate over whether or not fashion is a legitmate form of art, but one inarguable truth is that when “traditional” art and fashion collide, great things can happen. This holds true for the clothing brand Ugly Fly Republic. Emerging street artist and creator of the collection, Monai Alexis, switched from canvas to clothing to display her painting.

Monai created Ugly Fly Republic for two reasons: To reflect the free-spirited flow of her being and to go beyond what the everyday person dreams is attainable. “The brand is for the eccentric and colorful art appreciator, the risk-takers who live outside the box and the lovers of fashion who aim to eliminates the borders associated with clothing,” she says in a reds release.

Bold colors and whimsical designs are featured on jeans, shirts, dresses, sweaters, and outerwear.  Each piece is hand-made adding to the unique and individualistic approach to fashion that the brand represents. UFR is not for the faint of heart or color. This is for those who aren’t afraid to stand out and who have a longing for the organic street wear we see emulated in high fashion so often.

The burgeoning brand can be purchased online here. The site also features a blog, and the full lookbook for Fall/Winter 2016.  Click through for photos of current offerings.
