Nas: "I Didn’t Want to Be Around This Long in the Game" (@Nas)

Nas’ debut album “Illmatic” turns 20 this year, which would mean Nas has been in the game for two whole decades. In a recent interview with Revolt, Nas reflected on his illustrious career.

“I didn’t know I would even be still around this long,” Nas said in an interview with Revolt. “I didn’t want to be around this long in the game, to tell you the truth,” Nas said. “I was just happy to get a voice in. So, just being happy to get your voice, anybody out there who’s working on their first album or who’s only made one album, just think about 20 years from now, it’s gonna be a great feeling.”

To celebrate his landmark debut album, the Queens rapper is reissuing the album in a double-disc anniversary edition. Entitled “Illmatic XX”, the upcoming re-release is out April 15 through Sony Legacy, and promises a collection of rare remixes and unreleased demos and freestyles. The album’s 10 original tracks, meanwhile, have been remastered for their milestone birthday.
