Nils Frahm "Covers" John Cage's "4'33"" in New Video From Late Night Tales Mix

Nils Frahm has shared a video for his “cover” of John Cage‘s “4’33″” from his Late Night Tales mix, out September 11. Cage’s piece famously calls for its performer to sit silently for four minutes and 33 seconds, but Frahm actually plays something. Ste Hinde directed the video at Frahm’s Berlin home in July. Watch it below via Pitchfork.tv. You can stream Frahm’s full Late Night Tales mix, featuring music by Four Tet, Boards of Canada, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, a spoken-word piece by actor Cillian Murphy, and more, here until September 14.

Frahm said of the video, “This rework could be considered a joke. I sat at the piano in silence and worked from there. I listened and took in the atmosphere and this is what came out of it. Of course, it doesn’t do Cage justice, but it was more fun playing rather than sitting in silence.”
