The second season premiere of Starz’ popular original series “Power” was watched by 1.43 million viewers during its 9 p.m. airing last Saturday (Jun 6), setting a ratings record for the network.

Including re-runs, which aired throughout the weekend, the Season 2 premiere of “Power” had 3.62 million viewers.

According to Deadline.com, after last weekend’s big premiere, “Power” is now the most-watched Starz original series season debut in the channel’s 21-year history.

The record was previously held by the January 2012 premiere of “Spartacus: Vengeance,” which drew 1.39 million viewers the night it premiered, and 3.3 million after the weekend concluded.

The Season 2 premiere of “Power” tripled the audience from the series premiere a year ago, which had less than 500,000 viewers, representing a more than 200 percent increase in viewership. Also, compared to the Season 1 finale, the show’s viewership is up 32 percent.
