Saggy Pants Ban Now Applies to Women as Well in FL City

The city of Opa-Locka, Florida, banned people from wearing sagging pants in city buildings back in 2007, and later in 2010 broadened the ban to make saggy pants inappropriate in public as well.  Now the Opa-Locka city ban is expanding it to women who wear saggy pants as a fashion statement as well.

Dorothy Jonson a.k.a. “Lady Justice,” who sponsored the expansion of the saggy ban to include women, related a story that motivated her to have women included in the ban as well.

“I heard a little boy say, ‘Mommy, pull your pants up, that man is looking at you.’  Your son is telling you this, and she didn’t see anything wrong with it.”

Violating the ban originally resulted in a $250 fine or up to 10 hours of community service, but along with its expansion to women, city commissioners have voted to possibly double the fine to $500.
