Say What?: Writer Urges Young Men To Get ‘Yes’ Text Before Sex
Anytime I hear a story about a young man who was found to have been falsely accused of raping someone, I sigh heavily. Case in point, check out the story of former Temple Owls linebacker Praise Martin-Oguike, who lost a football scholarship after being falsely accused of rape, right here. It makes it harder for the people who have legitimate rape claims to be taken seriously. And it makes almost permanently changes the life of innocent people. One writer is hoping her idea for her son and other young men will prevent this type of error. Former ESPN vice president and founding editor of ESPN Magazine Roxanne Jones published this advice on CNN for her son and other young men out there: get a ‘yes’ text from any woman you’re seeking to have sex with.
Never have sex with a girl unless she’s sent you a text that proves the sexual relationship is consensual beforehand. And it’s a good idea to even follow up any sexual encounter with a tasteful text message saying how you both enjoyed being with one another — even if you never plan on hooking up again.
So here’s my problem with it. Even if a girl gives their consent ahead of time and for whatever reason, even while having sex, she says no and he continues, it would still be rape thus negating the ‘consensual text’. Not to mention, anyone could pick up the phone and send that ‘yes’ text; can’t even verify it was that person. I think this kind of advice gives people false hope–I see too many pitfalls in it and that could backfire on these guys, with harmful results. But that’s me. What do you think? Do you think the ‘yes’ text is a good idea or a load of garbage? Similar Posts:
