So Paula Deen Serves The N-Word With Her Shrimp & Grits…

Paula Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers, are fighting allegations of racism and sexual harassment after an ex-employee filed a civil lawsuit against the two of them. During the deposition for the case, Paula Deen confesses to using the n-word, and telling racially themed jokes. My favorite part of the deposition is when Paula Deen says it would have been cute if her black employees dressed up like slaves for a civil war themed wedding:

And when asked if she wanted black men to play the role of slaves at a wedding she explained she got the idea from a restaurant her husband and her had dined at saying, “The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie.“I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves.” {…Read the rest here}

Wait! So did Paula Deen think her black employees would have also found it “impressive” dressing like slaves to serve white people nearly 150 years after the civil war??? This is almost comical, except that it’s not. In the age of President Obama and social media, nothing surprises me anymore. I have grown so cynical that honestly, I feel like some people just sit at home enunciating the n-word in the mirror as a past time while listening to Kanye West.

On the other hand, I’m tired of reading about people like Paula Deen who plead “clueless”, when confronted with their racial issues. “Growing up in the South” is not an excuse for ignorance; “black people using the n-word in rap songs” is not justification for ignorance; and my favorite, “I’m not racist,” is not a defense for ignorance.

AND Yes! Paul Deen employs all of the above excuses in her deposition…while also admitting that her brother, Bubba, has a cocaine, alcohol, and pornography addiction…{read the rest via Yazmar}.  I don’t know whether to cry or laugh…*DEEP SIGH*
