The National Team Up With Nonprofit to Benefit Education for Girls in Guatemala

The National have announced a show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on October 16 that will benefit the nonprofit Cooperative for Education, which supports education programs for girls in Guatemala.

Specifically, the show will benefit the newly launched Thousand Girls Initiative, the result of a partnership between the National’s Matt Berninger and his cousins Joe and Jeff Berninger, who founded Cooperative for Education.

“Almost twenty years ago my cousins Joe and Jeff Berninger quit their corporate jobs and started this non-profit,” Matt Berninger said in a statement. “CoEd has already reached more than 150,000 kids with textbooks and computers, and now they’re taking on girls’ education. I’m excited to join the effort to keep 1,000 girls from dropping out of school, which is so common in Guatemala. I’m really proud to be a part of this amazing organization.”
