Tony Dungy In Hot Water After Remarks About Michael Sam
On the heels of last weeks ESPY Awards which novice NFL star Michael Sam take home the Arthur Ashe Courage Award former NFL player/coach Tony Dungy has stirred the pot and lit the internet ablaze over his remarks coerning the drafting of the openly gay Sam.
You most likely recognize Dungy from his very successful stints as head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers or the Indianapolis Cults where he became the first black coach in NFL history to win a Superbowl. In an interview with a local Tampa publication Tony stated he wouldn’t have taken the Missouri defensive end Sam had he been running the team. ”I wouldn’t have taken him,” said Dungy, now an NFL analyst for NBC. “Not because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it. It’s not going to be totally smooth,” he told the paper. “… Things will happen.”
Dungy did not go on to elaborate as to what those “things” he mentioned could entail. And with those thoughts Tony is now under fire from Michael Sam fans, lgbt groups and others.
Certainly there are a sea of others who are trepidatious about an openly gay player transitioning smoothly into the NFL culture, still, isn’t it about time? Comment your thoughts below…Similar Posts:
