"Treme" Actor Suing Macy’s & NYPD for Violating Civil Rights (@robrown718)

Robert Brown, a star in the HBO program “Treme,” is the latest New Yorker to experience racism while shopping. Brown is suing Macy’s for allegedly having him detained by police for over an hour, after employees accused him of having a fraudulent credit card.

Brown was attempting to buy a $1,300 Movado watch as a college graduation gift to his mom, but he was thwarted by angry plainclothes police. The police claimed he :could not afford to make such an expensive purchase.”

Brown names Macy’s and the NYPD in his lawsuit, claiming they violated his civil rights. Although he is seeking some dough, the “Coach Carter” actor says it’s not about the money.

“Why was I put in cuffs? Why was I even approached?” Brown asked. “It was a slap in the face.”
