Sunscreen is a must have for any summer makeup bag, but we’re ready to take skin protection next level.
Sun protection factor–or “SPF”- plays a major role in most beauty products, as a bevy of sicknesses (skin cancer) and environmental issues (global warming) continue to impact the world. Firstly, what exactly does SPF mean? According to the dictionary, its definition reads:
“the effectiveness of suntanning preparations in protecting the skin from the harmful effects of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, as rated on a scale of increasing protectiveness.”
For example, if your sunblock has an SPF of 20, that means 1/20th of the sun’s radiation will reach your skin. Ideally, the higher the number, the better since it decreases the amount of overall exposure. Today, it’s virtually impossible to not adopt a savvy beauty routine, as there are plenty of beauty finds with built in sun protection.
