All About Whitney Port’s Bridal Shower Look (Plus, Exclusive Details on Her Wedding Gown)

Whitney Port is one beautiful bride-to-be.

Port, 30, celebrated her upcoming nuptials with a surprise California casual-themed bridal shower — planned by her mom and sisters — on Friday, and the fashion designer‘s dress was picture-perfect.

“I was going to wear something black and then I thought that was sort of sacrilegious to wear something black to my own wedding shower,” Port — who opted for an Asilio dress paired with Sophia Webster pumps, which featured ‘Wifey for Lifey’ written on the soles, and Luna Skye jewelry — tells PEOPLE.

“I just wanted something fun and cute and lacy and white,” she adds. “I felt like it was the right kind of thing to wear to a bridal shower.”

The reality star also donned a “Mrs. Rosenman” Lola James necklace — a nod to her fiancé — former The City associate producer, Tim Rosenman.

But unlike her bridal party look, Port reveals that her wedding gown, which she helped design, is “very ornate.”

“Originally, when I first envisioned myself getting married, I envisioned myself in something very simple — like a little slip dress — like Cindy Crawford on the beach,” the Whitney Eve designer explains. “It turned out to be very opposite of that … [There’s] a lot of detail.”

Adds Port: “The designer … sent a bunch of his gowns to L.A. [and] there were elements that I liked of each so, I took different elements of each dress and put them together.”

And although, the Hills alum has her wedding gown design solidified, she admits she’s still deciding on wearing a separate reception dress.

“I have to see the [wedding] dress first to see if I feel like I’m going to want to be in it the entire night or not,” Port — who’s had several muslin fittings, but is getting the final dress sent to her — explains.

But one wedding detail she’s totally set on: No bridesmaids.

“I’m not having anything really traditional like that,” Port says. “I’ll have a processional, like my sisters and family will walk down [the aisle].”

She adds: “I mean, it’s just no one ever wants to be one, I’m sorry to say. It’s work. You have to buy a dress that you’re never going to wear again and it just adds a whole layer of responsibility to something that should just be a really carefree day for everybody involved.”

And even though she isn’t having a traditional bridal party, Port says she does “have a specific dress code” for all of her guests.

As for the wedding theme, Port says, “it’s really glamorous.”

“At first, I had so many ideas for my wedding like I thought I was going to go to Mexico and do a beach-y thing and then I thought I was going to go to Northern California and do a rustic-y thing,” she explains. “And what I landed on, it is a destination, but it’s just going to be a lot more formal and glamorous than I ever thought that I would do.”
