Amy Schumer’s Super-Stylish Week: All the Scoop From Her Glam Squad

Amy Schumer’s new movie may be called Trainwreck, but her premiere style has been anything but. The relative red carpet newcomer has been handling her huge press tour for the film with serious style — and a little help from a glam squad that includes stylist Tara Swennen, Trainwreck costume designer Leesa Evans, makeup artist Andréa Tillman and hairstylist Kim Gueldner. Below, the crew behind her N.Y.C. premiere look dishes about her showstopping look to PEOPLE.

Evans, who had been in Rome working on Zoolander 2, happened to be flying back to N.Y.C. so was on hand to help style Schumer, which was fitting considering she dressed Schumer in her fun, of-the-moment looks for the New York-set comedy. Schumer’s sexy look came courtesy of a Dion Lee dress — for which Schumer thanked Evans “for the sideboob” — and Gianvito Rossi shoes.

“I’m thrilled with Amy’s look from last night. It felt strong, daring and elegant,” Evans says. “In thinking about what dress would be perfect for Amy’s first film premiere, I wanted it to reflect all of the effort she put in as the writer, producer and star. Dion Lee designed a great dress, equal parts sexy, strong and sophisticated. I loved it on Amy.”

And since Schumer is fairly new to the whole scene, she and Evans have been learning what works for her together. “I think the best part of this process has been that Amy has started to recognize that certain shapes and styles make her feel so great,” Evans tells PEOPLE. “I love working with Amy because we both believe that confidence in dressing is more attractive than any one dress or outfit. I’m so happy that Amy has found a way to truly enjoy fashion both on and off the red carpet.”

Hairstylist Kim Guelder has equal praise for her client, who was “a very random referral” nearly a year ago, but the two have since worked together on Schumer’s premieres and magazine covers (including GQ this week). When asked whether Schumer has strong ideas or lets Guelder do her thing, she says “Both. There is a great collaboration there. It’s nice when a client is so trusting, and will work with you and your vision.”

To create last night’s “sexy, polished, edgy” look, Guelder relied on a Brazilian blowout smoothing treatment (“it’s not as strong as keratin so it’ll still hold body and curl”) to fight humidity, then used Inphenom shampoo and conditioner for a great base and used R+Co Jackpot cr&gravee;me for smoothness. She then spritzed Schumer’s hair with Unite Texturiza spray “to get the height up top” and then gently pulled back her front pieces and pinned them, then added in the top pieces, making sure not to lose height or texture.

And though Schumer has had tons of memorable waves, braids and updos since her promo tour kicked off, Guelder can’t pick just one favorite — “there are so many!” — but no matter what the look, they always have a blast getting ready. “I think the best part is just being around Amy and her sister Kim. We have a lot of fun,” she says.

Makeup artist Andréa Tiller also has been with Schumer almost by accident since way back. “My agent called me and said it was an emergency booking because the makeup artist booked was stuck in traffic,” she says. “I had 20 minutes to glam her up for a red carpet event and the rest is history.”

They’ve done lots of looks together (one of Tiller’s faves is the MTV Movie Awards, which Schumer hosted), but for this event, she wanted it to be extra special. “I gave it a lot of thought because I wanted her to feel her most beautiful for this premiere,” she says. “We usually play up the eyes but this look had to be taken to the next level! I chose an army green shadow for the eyes that made it edgy but didn’t age the whole look. I made it more dramatic then usual by extending the shape and adding fluffy mink lashes. I paired the eyes with a beautiful pinky nude lip to balance the look.”

(Want to try the look at home? Tiller recommends Laura Mercier’s “Black Karat” baked shadow, Chanel’s Ombré Essentielle soft touch eye shadow in “46 Lotus” on the tear ducts to lighten eyes, Velour mink lashes in “You Complete Me” and Armani Flash Lacquer gloss in “107.”)

So will we see more of their collaborations? Sounds like it: “Amy is just a great gal and person to be around and work for,” says Tiller. “It’s been fun experimenting with makeup and her looks. She’s down to try anything because she trusts her team.”

Schumer also had two homerun style moments earlier this week — first in an orange Narciso Rodriguez dress and black ankle-strap heels at the Akron, Ohio premiere of Trainwreck (LeBron James is from there, don’t ask too many questions) and in a lilac 3/4-sleeve dress, also Narciso Rodriguez, plus a similar pair of heels that had a graphic print on the heels and vamp, which she wore to an appearance at the N.Y.C. Apple store..
