If you weren’t aware, today, October 11, marks the United Nation’s International Day Of The Girl: an observance intended to raise awareness about gender inequality. And Barneys New York is using social media to play a major part in calling attention to women’s issues that affect females today.

The luxury department store partnered with The Girls’ Lounge – an organization uniting women by providing a place for them to gather at male-dominated events – to encourage women to highlight gender equality issues. Using social media, women all over are challenged to finish the sentence, “Anything is possible when …” and share a photo using the #GirlPossible hashtag. In addition, Barneys is devoting windows at its flagship and regional stores across the country that feature digital slideshows of crowd-sourced content – which will hopefully grab the attention of any and everyone walking by.

“International Day of the Girl is all about raising awareness for girls’ rights on a global level, said Charlotte Blechman, executive vice president of marketing and communications, on Barneys The Window.

And with over 200 responses from women who’ve either snapped or recorded themselves, there are even some famous faces that’ve made it a point to support the cause. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that the movement will spark conversations about gender equality as a whole on an international level.

Let us know what you think of the cause in the comments below, and check out some #GirlPossible snaps on the pages ahead.
