BB Vs. CC Creams: What’s The Difference?

Know that you’re not alone if you’ve ever found yourself totally baffled about what exactly BB, CC or even DD (yes, they exist!) creams do. With new product releases every year, it’s easy for beauty consumers to become confused and overwhelmed about what works best for their skin. To understand the whole beautifying shindig better, we’ve consulted experts to clear up the differences.

“CC cream stands for color correcting, while BB cream is called a blemish bomb blender,” explains Kristin Womack, New Jersey based makeup artist at Verde Salon. “The difference is that CC creams are much lighter on the skin than that of BB creams. BB creams are more of a foundation moisturizer, while CC creams work to color correct. This helps erase any red tones disappear.”

Not sure which product does what? Womack recommends using BB creams for heavy duty finish and CC creams for a light and airy look.

“If you’re on the fairer side, CC creams are great for that gentle and natural looking finish. If you have darker toned skin with blemishes and uneven spots,  you should use a BB cream.

No matter your product preference, both creams are ideal for summer makeup bags, as they add SPF protection benefits and more.

“No matter your product preference, both BB and CC creams are great for summer, because they contain SPF protection,” states Womack. “In addition, both creams function as great primers to use before applying your normal foundation.”
