BD Trade Secrets Base Products

I have a horribly snobby confession to make; I kept putting off trying out these base products from Tesco’s own brand, BD Trade Secrets, because I’ve been having a bit of skin drama lately which – as you can see by the wonderfully flattering ‘before’ picture below – I was having a battle concealing with my extremely expensive, high-end make-up stash, so I figured if these products were going to struggle, what chance did a Tesco brand of make-up have?

BD Trade Secrets Foundatyion Review

For make-up to work well on me at the moment it has to be able to deal with redness, inflammation, spots (both current and healing), dryness and dehydration, so it’s safe to say that I don’t think there is a make-up in creation that can handle such a task.  Having said that, I’m astoundingly impressed with the BD Trade Foundations I’ve been trying out and the brand has flown miles up in my estimation.

BD Trade Secrets Foundations

Let’s have a closer look at the products, starting with the foundation range.  The three I have, from left to right, are Natural Face Base, Everyday Base and Vital Skin Long Wear Foundation.  Everything featured in this post is the lightest shade available unless otherwise stated.  In the pictures below, I used the Everyday Base all over my face to tone down redness and generally even out skintone.  The shade match is incredible; it’s natural and one of the closest matches I’ve got to my skin tone in quite a while.  The finish is also gorgeous and gives that almost dewy, healthy skin look that so many foundations struggle to achieve.  I followed up with the Vital Skin Long Wear Foundation on my tricky areas where there’s excessive redness/inflammation.

BD Trade Secrets Camouflage

Next up are the perfectors, with the Even Smoother Eye Base on the left and the Camouflage Face Concealer on the right.  I confess I’m yet to try the eye base as I haven’t worn any eyeshadow recently, but the concealer is amazing! Creamy, pigmented, blendable and gives great coverage without sticking on any dry bits – it performs just as well as those triple the price, so if you use a lot of concealer and need high coverage, definitely try this one as it’s truly fantastic.

BD Trade Secrets Powder

Now on to the powders. All the above products are quite creamy so if you’re prone to shine, you’ll need a bit of powder to keep everything in place.  The High Definition Finishing Powder is buttery and creamy, making it perfect for dryer complexions that are prone to shine.  There are quite a few shades available, plus a translucent shade which is the one I went for.  The thing I really like about this powder is how it reduces shine without flattening the dewiness.

BD Trade Secrets Foundation base products before and after

I’m truly impressed with how great the base products from the BD Trade Secrets line are.  All three of the elements are great – the foundations, the concealers and the powders – but if I had to narrow it down, I’d go for one of the foundations since the colour match is spot-on for me, plus the finish and feel is absolutely lovely.  If you haven’t tried them yet, go check them out! Nothing costs more than a tenner with the foundations sitting between £7.99 and £9.99, the powders are £5.99, the eye base is £5 and the concealer is £3.99 (!!) all of which can be found here – link – I really do love the fact that you can get pretty much everything you need for a complete base look for less than £20.
