Cosmo Is Sorry For Its Terrible Beauty Guide

The fight for diversity in fashion continues, thanks to a bevy of insensitive editorial content. Yesterday (April 2), Cosmopolitan came under major heat for a racially insensitive list titled, “21 Beauty Trends That Need To Die In 2015.”

A large majority of the  women under the “R.I.P.” column were of color while nearly all of the faces under the “Hello, Gorgeous” column were white. Unsurprisingly, social media came for the publication and even went as far as to boycott purchasing future issues.

Additionally, Joan Smalls–who was featured in the post–got word of the controversy and tweeted her disappointment.

“Really??? @Cosmopolitan What are you trying to imply … #Tasteless #ThinkbeforeYouPost #Unfollowing,” she wrote before Cosmo sent a personal apology.

“Empowering and supporting all women is our mission, and here, we fell short. We apologize and will do better in the future.”

The article has also been edited with a note that we can assume is further apology:

“This article focuses on beauty trends with images that represent those trends. Some images have been taken out of context, and we apologize for any offense. Celebrating all women is our mission, and we will continue to work hard to do that.”

SBs, what do you think of this snafu? Let us know in the comments below and check out a gallery of black female celebs whose beauty looks are always flawless.
