‘Cosmo’ Putting Fun, Fearless Female In A Bottle

Cosmopolitan magazine is going beyond the scratch and sniff, and bringing its readers a perfume for the “fun, fearless female.”

The magazine is launching a fragrance, which hit shelves in the UK this week, that smells of a blend of mandarin, bergamot and jasmine. According to the Financial Times, U.S. readers will not have to wait long for their own bottle of ‘Cosmopolitan The Fragrance.’

Despite the backlash the “racy” magazine faced earlier this summer, with organization demanding to censor their covers on retail shelves, it is not slowing down the magazine from expanding. The Cosmopolitan magazine perfume joins a line of prescription eyeglasses that went on sale this past July. In an effort to maintain the traditional print aspect, Hearst has been creating new revenues through product licensing.

Along with a complete digital revamp, Hearst is transforming its magazines into a lifestyle, which makes a perfume for it readers a genius idea.

“Cosmo is a brand that has an attitude. That translates into an entire life guide for a certain kind of woman,” said Bruno Maglione, WME-IMG executive vice-president. “It really lends itself to a lot of different areas where that brand is going to be meaningful and credible and create a kind of tribal identification with women who say, ‘I’m a Cosmo girl’.”
