When it comes to dressing for New Year’s Eve, everyone’s go-to is sequins in the form of shortest dress you can find. However, considering my geographical location (Minnesota), I’m dressing for the weather this New Year’s Eve.

My ‘Geek Chic’ look for the evening’s debauchery will be if anything – a little bit conservative but done so without sacrificing fun or style. I stayed in line with the necessary dress code of including sequins with my tuxedo blazer and kept the sparkles going with a gold pleated maxi skirt.

For this look, it’s all in the accessories — standout cat-eye glasses and my black & white oxford shoes paired with sweater socks give it the perfect touch of geek meets cool (a la J.Crew).

If you’re looking to wear something else other than a standard New Year’s Eve uniform – think outside of the box and wear sequins in an unconventional manner. Some cute combinations to try: sequined crop top paired with stylish sweats and stiletto heels or a sequined pencil skirt paired with a flannel. The possibilities are endless!
