make up for ever

I don’t have the same level of expertise as celebrity makeup artists, but the one thing that brings us together is our collective love for Make Up For Ever. In an era where the camera advancement is moving at warp speed, it’s one of the few makeup brands that keep up with equally innovative products.

Now, I’m not a fan of spending big bucks on cosmetics, but I’ll buy that HD foundation without fail every other month so my selfies can look on point, even with pimples. Seriously, it delivers the type of airbrushing effect that doesn’t look overdone or fake; light coverage that looks full is their specialty.

Next month (July 16) marks the official launch of the upgraded HD foundation and although I was weary of the winning formula being tampered with, it remains in tact. During the recent launch event, I got the chance to not only preview the new addition, but speak with the campaign stars; Jamie Chung and Andreja Pejic.

With careers that have certainly taken unconventional routes, these two totally embody the “Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You.” tagline and even created their own eyeshadow palettes for the occasion. It should also be noted that Pejic makes history as the first transgender model to be featured in a cosmetics campaign; werk! Keep reading to see what they told StyleBlazer about their history making moment as well as tips for red carpet level makeup and of course–selfies!

StyleBlazer: The campaign tagline is “Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You.” What would you say is the boldest and most unexpected thing you’ve done in life so far?

Andreja Pejic: For me “Be Bold” means being fierce and true to yourself and the freedom you get from that. For most of my childhood and early adolescence, I was forced to live the life of a boy. That made me very awkward and shy but I eventually became more confident so by expressing my feminine side to myself, it was very freeing. Once I figured out how to stay true to myself, and to transition, I never looked back. I realized that transitioning to a woman was the only way for me to live a fulfilled life and to be truly happy. It was a choice of hiding or being bold and being myself.

Jamie Chung: To “Be Bold” and to “Be Unexpected” is something I think is extremely important. I feel like my whole career has been about being unexpected, from the beginning when I started off on The Real World, to making the transition into being taken seriously as an actress in this industry. I knew I didn’t want to be known just as a reality star and making that transition wasn’t easy. I’m so lucky that I am in the incredible position I’m in today.
