Obviously, she’s got a megawatt smile and insane ballerina bod, but her backstory is what dreams are made of. As a 13 year old, countless teachers told her she would never make it professionally after such a late start, but lo and behold, she’s made unimaginable strides less than 20 years later. In other words; the “black girl magic” is on fleek!

After seven years as a soloist with the prestigious American Ballet Theater, she was promoted to principal dancer, the first African American woman to do so in its 75 year history. This news comes just a couple months after her stunning Time 100 cover, where she was honored for her cultural relevance both in and outside the dance world.

Armed with over 500,000 Instagram followers, the 32 year old is also lauded for her style, which we’re sure everyone will try to emulate this summer.
