When word got around that Gucci would be letting go of creative director, Frida Giannini and chief executive, Patrizio di Marco the first thought was, who would replace them? On the day the announcement was made, Gucci let it be known that Marco Bizzarri –former head of Bottega Veneta– would be replacing di Marco in January.

But the question of who would be the creative director was still in limbo.

Speculation has it that the French owned brand is looking at Hedi Slimane to take on the job. Slimane who is best known for revamping Saint Laurent and heading Dior Homme from 2000 to 2007, would be a top contended for his radical approach to fashion.

As noted by Page Six, who reported on the speculation, Saint Laurent sales grew 28 in the third quarter and their appeal to the American market –after controversially moving offices from Paris to Los Angeles– has grown tremendously.

Slimane — who revamped Saint Laurent since taking over in 2012 — is a top contender. Other names on Kering’s short list include Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci — known for his close friendships with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. But sources say that he’s locked into his contract at Givenchy for years, and would be difficult to poach. Another designer being considered is American Joseph Altuzarra, after Kering took a stake in his namesake company last year.

If we’re gonna throw names around, we think Rihanna’s stylist Adam Selman may be a good fit. While he’s incredibly fresh, he could possibly bring an element of youth and social media appeal to the brand.

But we all shall see..
