Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: The couple got together in 1995, which means they were around so long that they saw a number of iconic trends throughout the decades (many of which Stefani started herself — who didn’t want pink hair and braces after seeing her in this outfit on MTV’s New Year’s Eve Show in 1999?). And Gavin was always perfectly in step with her fierce-funky fashion, as you can tell from his cool tee layering and multiple piercings. I just want to bring back TRL, Dunkaroos and their ’90s love, you guys!

Brittany Talarico, Style News Editor: I remember watching the 2005 Teen Choice Awards and wanting to crib Gwen’s amazing bandanna head scarf. (I was 17!) I also loved how she totally owned the look, from her metallic bikini top bra to her slogan tee to her “Cool” belt. And Gavin made sure to let his wife have all the attention in his cargo pants, white shirt and Vans.

Lindy Segal, Style Social Editor: When I think of Gwen and Gavin at their peak, this is what I picture. As a couple, they brought back Old Hollywood to the red carpet in the coolest way. Gwen’s Vivienne Westwood dress is reminiscent of her custom Dior wedding dress (the dip-dyed pink was so ahead of its time), and I love how Gavin ditched his rock-star-chic look to dress the part next to his wife at her big premiere.

Catherine Kast, Style Editor: Nothing about Gwen’s Alexander McQueen look from the 2004 Vanity Fair Oscar Party is subtle, but you know what is? Gwen and Gav’s couple-matching: His dark aubergine tie highlights a similar color in the stained-glass pattern on her gown.

I love that we can’t pin down just one decade this ensemble is inspired by–platinum curls and the fur stole feel like 1940s Hollywood, and the patchwork and the tiered bottom of the dress vibe ’60s and ’70s. But there are some elements I can’t help but think are forward-thinking: Those sheer panels! The single-shoulder coat-drape. Go Gwen. Always.

Jackie Fields, Beauty Editor: From her perfectly coiffed platinum lob right down to her gold, open-toe heels, Gwen had an air of Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarface at the 2006 American Music Awards. And while she glammed up her outfit with all gold everything, her best accessory that night was her doting husband Gavin, dressed in a low-key T-shirt, jacket and jeans, as he supported the upcoming release of her second solo album, The Sweet Escape.

Lindsay Schallon, Senior Style Editor: The pink lip, that Stella McCartney jumpsuit, those curls (both hers and his peeking out from his slicked-back man-pony), everything about their coordinated looks at The Tree of Life premiere during the 2011 Cannes Film Festival was B-A-N-A-N-A-S in the best way possible. But it’s the handhold here that gives me the most nostalgia. Tear.
