Hanley Mellon’s Debut Resort 2016 Collection

Hanley Mellon struck the perfect balance between sophistication and comfort, yet practical for their 2016 debut resort collection. Using St. Barths as the profiled location inspiration, creative director Nicole Hanley Mellon infused the “laid back elegance” of the island into the sportswear collection.

Mixing and matching possibilities are limitless with garments in soft, fluid fabrics such as chiffon, jersey, sheer and crochet knits that are combined with textured accents like leather and sequins. While the black and white palette continues to dominate the runways, the natural colors of St. Barths are present as well to give the feel we expect from a resort collection with hibiscus red, blues, and olive tones. However, the black and white pieces do not disappoint with fun patterns and unexpected details such as the open weave tweed coat with white knit collar and exposed stitching.

Three variations of tropical floral patterns are printed on chiffon to really drive home the concept of the collection.

Mellon is giving consumers a smart collection for the shopper who wants to build her wardrobe and knows how use proportions to create silhouettes that match her personal style. The brand’s core values of a sense of ease, balance of proportion, texture, color, and attention to detail are evident in pieces such as the open weave olive green midi wrap dress and top. And warm weather must haves like maxi dresses and shorts.

The collection is not a “something for everyone” offering, rather there are pieces that every Hanley Mellon customer can use to create full looks that are relaxed and effortlessly chic. We deem this debut collection a success.
