Harry Styles Has the Most-Googled Celeb Man Bun of the Year And Other Must-Know Beauty Stats

We’ve long been fans of Harry Styles’ delightfully messy mane, and it turns out we aren’t the only ones; According to Google’s 2015 Beauty Trends Report, the One Direction singer’s man bun took the dubious distinction of the top-searched celebrity male do of the year. Yes, they can trace these kinds of things, and yes, we are eternally grateful.

Searches to see Styles’ topknot outperformed the patron saint of the messy man bun, Jared Leto, and the patron saint of “Come back, Jack” overgrown sloppy half-ponys, Leonardo DiCaprio. There are still a few more months left in the year, so we’re holding out for a resurgence of “Andrew Garfield man bun” searches because he deserves it. Get typing, ladies.

As far as female hairstyles go, box braids and goddess braids are the two styles that have risen in popularity this year. According to Google, the stars with the most-searched box braids of 2015 are Beyoncé, Keri Hilson and Janet Jackson. Bey saw a spike right when she debuted the look below in 2013, and this year she and Keri are pretty much even when it comes to the number of searches. (With the goddess braid, a style that resembles a voluminous French crown braid, searches weren’t as associated with celebs, but we have plenty of star braid-spiration here.)

When it comes to hair color, searches for “silver hair” increased this year. Interestingly, Rihanna is the top celeb search, even though she first debuted the color back in 2013 and has only tried subtler versions of the look for short periods since, including the streaks in this ponytail at her Diamond Ball in December 2014.

That said, we’re willing to bet that more recent interest in Rih’s grey-silver hair was inspired by a photoshoot she did for Tush Magazine in September 2014 that went viral because of the super-dramatic look she sported (below). It makes the rounds on social media every now and again and this summer there was a boost — just try Googling “Rihanna silver hair Twitter.”

The other stars who earned top searches for their silver hair were Kylie Jenner (she first tried this look over the summer this year) and Nicole Richie. We’re betting everyone was looking for her fab Met Gala hair from 2013, since this year she was all about the pastels.

We also want to point out that the term “rainbow hair” has declined in searches this year (bye, bye, My Little Pony manes), but purple hair is still going strong after Katy Perry’s lavender lob at the Grammys in February. Other top-searched purple-haired stars included Lauren Conrad and her April Fool’s Day lilac look and Nicole Richie (who’s had purple on-and-off since winter 2014). Fun fact: Richie is the only star who shows up in both the silver and purple categories, which shows that her adventurous vibe does not go unnoticed.
