We’ve already talked about the resurgence of liquid lipstick and its transformation into the younger, but just as sophisticated sister to lipstick. From M.A.C.’s just released Vamplify line to top rated favorites like Too Faced’s Melted Metal line, the demand for this niche product is growing, which means we’ve got to make sure our beauty maintenance is on point.

The high shine of liquid lipstick is peak glam, but it can also get pretty messy if priming isn’t done before hand.

For starters, using an actual primer under your lip color ensures that it will stay on past lunch. It also creates an even canvas, so your lipstick doesn’t gather and create clumps on the lip line. Ulta’s Lip Primer ($8) is highly recommended and if you want to see it in action, check out our past review here (pressed powder works just as well, too).

Additionally, a quick and easy way to prevent product from melting onto your lips (or at least minimize the possibility), is to form your lips into an “O,” insert your index finger into your mouth, close mouth and pull away.

Although this sounds kind of weird, it’s actually effective in removing lipstick from the inner rim of your mouth. And unlike your lipstick, application should mirror that of chapstick or lip gloss. Instead of applying all over the mouth, stick to the inner area and gently pat to expand.

This method not only prevents slipping and sliding, it also saves you money since you’re using less each day. Before your next liquid lipstick moment, bookmark some of the top rated finds below!
