How To Pull Off Dewy Makeup The K-Beauty Way

Over the past year, we’ve watched Korean makeup and skin care catapult to the upper echelon of beauty. Beyond the head turning monikers and what some may call “strange” ingredients is the real key to its success: healthy ingredients backed by advanced scientific research. So, it’s no surprise that most of these finds make for the best barely there makeup.

As the weather cools down and winter snow looms near, our skin is probably begging for moisture. Enter the alluring “dewy” look, often replicated on high fashion runways and ad campaigns. For starters, a water based cleanser like Dr. Jart Dermaclear Micro Water ($32) will reset and brighten the skin before you put makeup on top of it. This specific product is also an ideal makeup remover for super sensitive skin since it’s formulated with 90% natural ingredients.

If your skin still needs hydration, add just a tinge of moisturizing creme; too much will only make setting your makeup a nightmare. K-beauty enthusiasts recommend Amore Pacific Creme ($150), which utilizes bamboo sap to add hyaluronic acid (hydration) to the skin.

Once the skin is fully prepped, you can keep your coverage light with a BB cream or something like Dr. Jart’s Ceramidin Day Tint ($48). Besides SPF protection–which should be in at least one of your daily products–ceramides promote another level of hydration. To finish out your dewy look, skip the lipstick and heavy eyeliners. Instead, go for full and healthy brows with mascara on the lashes.

Chosungah’s Brow Maker ($22) is renowned for its dual sponge/brush applicator that locks your brows in place and gives them an even tint. You can complete your personalized eye experience by applying Too Cool For School’s Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara ($25).  A teeny dial on the applicator brush allows you to extend or minimize its length, depending on the type of finish you want. How cool is that?!

We personally recommend TONY MOLY’s Bbo Bbo Lip Balm ($10). The cutesy container will last forever because a little of this scented balm goes a long way. Setting spray brings it all together and paints that dewy, reflective shimmer on the tops of your cheekbones.

TONY MOLY also makes a top rated mist ($15) that can double as a toner when you’re going au naturel. Are you ready to be a K-beauty convert? Sneak a peek at more of our favorites here.
