Look of the Week: Brittany Snow’s Hair and Makeup at the CMT Awards

We’re constantly updating our “Last Night’s Look” gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

Pitch Perfect 2 star Brittany Snow took on an exciting new gig this week — hosting the CMT Music Awards! To kick off the night, she opted for a black-and-white Monique Lhuillier dress, soft waves and a vivid pink lip that’s kind of everything. Read on to find out how Snow’s makeup artist Andre Sarmiento and hairstylist Aviva Perea got her ready for the big event.

“For Brittany’s incredible Monique Lhuillier dress, we wanted to do something classic and lovely, but still fun, so we chose a great pink lip,” Sarmiento tells PEOPLE of the inspiration behind her makeup. “A bright blue-based pink just shines against her tan skin.” (The exact color she’s wearing is Chanel Rouge Coco Ultra-Hydrating Lip Color in Ina, PS!) Sarmiento continued: “Glowing skin and simple makeup was the best way to highlight her show-stopping red carpet moment.”

For those who think they can’t rock a lip that bright, the pro says it’s all about confidence. “Pick a color you love and wear it with pride,” he suggests. “But for the slightly less daring, I love recommending sheer brights so you can get used to [the color].”

As for Snow’s summer-perfect waves (hello, wedding season inspiration!), Perea wanted to go for a vibe that wasn’t too formal or stuffy. “Keeping her hair down kept it young and modern,” she says.

The stylist started by blowing out the actress’s hair using a large Spornette Mixed Bristle Brush, which she followed by wrapping 1-inch sections around a T3 Styling Wand in alternating directions –slightly pulling at the curls to keep them from looking too polished. To set the look, she layered on her go-to texturizers, Show Beauty Working Texture Spray and Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. And finally, she added in a hidden gem that the cameras missed. “It’s not visible, but her hair was secured to one side using a gorgeous black Jennifer Behr “Victoria” hair comb,” Perea says. “It was a great way to dress up tousled hair.”
