Look of the Week: Dakota Johnson’s ‘Peaches and Cream’ Moment at the Toronto Film Festival

We’re constantly updating our Last Night’s Look gallery with all the best red-carpet moments (gorgeous dresses! dazzling accessories! sky-high heels!). Now, let’s talk beauty. Each week, we’ll be highlighting one of the most gorgeous makeup and/or hair moments, along with details on how to recreate the look — straight from the makeup artist or hairstylist — in our feature, Look of the Week.

We’ve seen a lot of amazing (and incredibly gorgeous) makeup moments — from Brie Larson’s vampy lip to Amber Heard’s old Hollywood-inspired waves — at the Toronto Film Festival this week, but there’s one look in particular that we can’t stop talking about: Dakota Johnson’s ethereal “peaches and cream” moment. We reached out her makeup artist, Pati Dubroff, to get exclusive scoop on the look that’s already been pinned to a few editors bridal beauty inspiration boards. (Yes, it’s that gorgeous!)

For the premiere of Black Mass, Johnson opted for a breathtaking floral Alexander McQueen gown, which inspired Dubroff to keep the star’s makeup soft with a subtle pop of peach.

“I was going with a nod to the ’70s and letting the color palette of the dress help to guide that,” she tells PEOPLE. “I was doing a lot of research online, looking at late ’60s and early ’70s makeup and the brunettes of that era, and I started seeing pictures of Jaclyn Smith and Anjelica Huston, who both were iconic beauties from that time.”

To complement the ethereal McQueen design, Dubroff began with Johnson’s eyes, adding depth with a grey eye shadow (from Chanel’s Les 4 Ombre Tisse D’Automne in 253) to the corner of the star’s eye creases. With a small damp brush, the makeup pro then lined Johnson’s lashline with a moss green hue (from the same palette) to create a slightly sharper defined edge.

Dubroff then added a light eggshell shadow and a peachy orange shimmer (Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre in Rouge Gorge) over the actress’s upper lid to the brow bone to pop against the subtle green shadow.

“It was just a perfect, perfect thing because you could see that wash of peach on the eye without it looking too colorful or comical,” Dubroff says.

Next, the makeup pro swiped on many coats of Chanel’s Black Le Volume de Chanel Mascara — on both the upper and lower eyelashes.

“The look had a lot of mascara, which is what that early ’70s eye was all about,” she tells PEOPLE. “It wasn’t as extreme as the ’60s with all of the false lashes, but it was a carry over of that.”

Dubroff finalized the look with a flush of Chanel’s Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick in 22 high on the star’s cheekbones and the apples of her cheeks to play up the peach color palette of the night.

“[Dakota’s] really fair, so I was calling this look ‘peaches and cream,’” she says. “Her skin is just so creamy, creamy, creamy, so that peaches and cream thing really worked for her. She’s just gorgeous, I feel very lucky to be doing makeup on her.”
