Before the handbag industry took a turn to minimalism, monogram prints were a big deal – so much so, that you couldn’t spot a fashion maven who wasn’t flaunting a logo-covered handbag. Well now a label is closing the chapter to one of its most coveted monogram series, and we have a feeling “it” bag lovers are bound to shed a few tears.

According to Women’s Wear Daily, Louis Vuitton is discontinuing its Takashi Murakami Multicolore monogram series – you know, the popular candy-colored print that became a universal trend after making its debut in 2003. The publication spoke to a LV store associate who said that the collection is being phased out of locations permanently, and confirmed that the style is “leaving stores at the end of July forever.” Well that was quick.

If you ask us, aside from its representation of the early 2000s, the termination of the desirable print truly symbols the end of the label’s Marc Jacobs era. Though Jacobs departed from the brand some time ago, his collaboration with pop artist Takashi Murakami was one that made a splash throughout the fashion world. And it seems like the company is saying its final goodbye to the creative director without actually saying anything at all (major side eye).

If you’re still a fan of the colorful monogram 12 years later, luckily you can snag a few limited pieces at Louis Vuitton’s 57th street flagship location inside Saks. But keep in mind that merchandise is only available upon request – as said by WWD – until they sell out, of course.

As for online shoppers, click ahead for a few Murakami pieces you can still snatch up from the label’s site.
