Monaco’s Royal Wedding Featured a Seriously Non-Traditional Wedding Dress

Pierre Casiraghi — currently 7th in line of Monaco’s succession — married Italian heiress Beatrice Borromeo on Saturday in Monaco, but it was Borremo’s non-traditional wedding dress that really stole the show.

Eschewing traditional royal bride looks, the 29-year-old model-turned-journalist wore a pale pink Valentino Haute Couture dress featuring gold lace silk chiffon. She topped off the look with flowers in her hair and carried a small and rustic-looking bouquet.

Borremo’s family has a close relationship with the House of Valentino — her family has close ties to the fashion company and her sisters have worn Valentino for their weddings.

Casiraghi, 27, kept things a bit more traditional with a double-breasted suit.

Saturday’s event marked the civil ceremony for the couple and the wedding celebrations will continue in Italy next weekend where they are set to have their religious ceremony on Borremo’s family’s private island. The bride is expected to wear another Valentino creation for that event as well.

The ceremony was held in Monaco’s Pink Palace and was attended by Casiraghi’s uncle Prince Albert and the groom’s mother Princess Caroline. Other family members from the couple’s families were also present. After officially tying the knot, the pair stepped out onto a balcony for a photo-op and gazed lovingly into each other’s eyes.

After the civil ceremony, the bride and groom joined over 500 celebrants in the palace’s gardens for a carnival-like themed garden party.
