New York Giants Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Is Head & Shoulders’ New ‘Mane Man’

Head & Shoulders always nabs the best tressed spokesmodels, from Sofia Vergara and her famous silky strands to Troy Polamalu’s mega curls. And the brand’s newest ambassador definitely meets the amazing mane mark. He also has a BIG secret — he doesn’t actually use shampoo.

The wide receiver is kicking off his new gig by starring in his first ad (available exclusively on the brand’s YouTube channel) which focuses on how his shoulders carry his “hopes, dreams, his reputation and the admiration of his fans” — not dandruff. (If this football thing doesn’t work out, acting may be his next calling.)

So we caught up with the NFL star to find out all his secrets to such flake-free strands. Turns out, he swears by doubling-up on the conditioner and steering clear of shampoo. “I guess it has a lot to do with my mom and dad and I got the hair that they have, but I honestly just condition it and take a shower — anytime I take a shower I just run the hot water through it and pretty much just let it do its own thing,” Beckham tells PEOPLE. “I don’t shampoo my hair, I just condition it.”

This also happens to be his fool-proof way to tackle horrible combat helmet hair. “If I put my helmet on and my hair is dry and I’m going to the game, I’m going to get very bad helmet hair,” he explains. “It just goes all over the place. As a matter of fact I think a lot of the pictures you can see me taking it off on the sidelines you can see just how wild it really is. I always shower right after and it goes back right to being curly.”

And because he already has a beauty contract under his belt, and we know how stylish he is (he’s modeled for Vogue and has the craziest, most impressive sneaker collection we’ve ever seen) we had to know if he sees fashion designing in his future. He won’t give up much details yet, he does say, “I love shoes and I love fashion and it’s just something I’ve always done. Shoes have always been one of my favorite things so it’s something I try and keep up on.”

For right now, the footballer is just focusing on his new hair opportunity. “It’s honestly just an honor to be a part of a team like this.” He also touches on what it’s like trying to follow in Polamalu’s famous footsteps. “It’s a lot of hair to fill, I guess you’d say, but I’m going to try my best to carry on the torch.”
