Ousted Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini Wears Valentino to Her Wedding

Frida Giannini’s 2015 may have started out rough — she had an abrupt and awkward exit from Gucci in January mere days before she was set to show the men’s fall collections — but it’s gotten better: She just wed her longtime boyfriend (and ex-Gucci CEO) Patrizio di Marco in Rome, and the bride wore Valentino. (So there!)

Giannini had been the sole creative director at Gucci since 2006 and had been romantically involved with di Marco since shortly after he joined the company in 2008. The two have a young daughter, Greta, for whom Valentino creative directors (and longtime friends of the couple’s) Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli created a miniature version of her mom’s gown.
Giannini and di Marco’s joint exit from Gucci was announced at the end of 2014, with the understanding that, while he would leave almost immediately, she would stay on until the end of February 2015 to see through her collections already in the works. But by early January, it was announced that not only would she be departing early, but her eventual successor Alessandro Michele (who was promoted from head of accessories) would be reworking the collections entirely, adding to rumors of a very bitter split.
And though the wedding photos are nothing but happy and beautiful, we’d say the choice of designer might add to those rumors as well.
