#PFW Spring 2016 Day 8 Recap: Masters At Play
There are only two names you need to know for day eight of Paris Fashion Week, and those are Chanel and Valentino.
Two of the most iconic names in fashion, led by two of th most iconic designers in history, put out collections that proved their god-like status. Karl Lagerfeld and Valentino Garavani prove age is nothing but a number with collections that are classic but modern at the same time.
At Chanel, Lagerfeld won PFW with an airport themed runway, complete with luggage, aviator shades and Cara Delevingne front row. The collection was a combination of Chanel’s signature tweed with sportier items such as tracksuits, backward baseballs caps and sweaters tied around the waist. Even the soles of the shoes lit up, evoking the lights on the runway, and giving us serious ’90s nostalgia.
At Valentino, the inspiration was Africa, with cornrows, tribal prints of leopards, rhinos and giraffes, and quills and peacock feathers. There were also some standout tie-dye pieces, and lace maxi dresses that brought the Valentino aesthetic perfectly in line with the Sahara-esque runway. The handbags also featured Masai beading and miniature African masks carved out of metal. The collection did something not many designers can do, tread the line between high fashion and culturally appropriation.

Other designers of the day included Ellery, Vanessa Seward and Iris van Herpen, but really it was Lagerfeld and Valentino who owned the day.
